The Registro Nacional de Sociedades: what it is
The register lists legal entities only. It has no sole proprietors. The file repeats a company once for each activity it declared: 3,136,488 rows for 1,270,807 tax IDs in the edition read.
Each activity carries a code in CLAE, the tax office's classification, whose first two digits follow the international divisions. 170,128 companies have at least one active manufacturing activity. For 131,846 of them it is the main activity.
Testigo holds 74,039 of those. A company is loaded when its main active activity is manufacturing, the code is in the current classification, and its fiscal address is not marked as nonexistent or unconfirmed.
Which fields exist, and which do not
| Field | In the register | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Tax ID | Yes, every row | The CUIT of the company. |
| Legal name | Yes, every row | There is no trade name. |
| Activity | Yes | A CLAE code of six digits. The description is filled for 67.5% of manufacturing rows in the file. |
| Fiscal address | Yes, with postal code | The address declared to the tax office, with province and locality. It is not necessarily the plant. |
| State of the address | Yes | DECLARADO, NO CONFIRMADO or INEXISTENTE - DESCONOCIDO. |
| Date of the company contract | Yes | The record shows the year. A few dates in the file are impossible and were removed. |
| Size | No | The size filter leaves Argentina out. |
| Phone, email, website | No | None of the three exists in the file. |
| Coordinates | No | Testigo shows an approximate position from the locality. |
Argentina also publishes a file of productive establishments with coordinates and an employment band. It is anonymised: the identifier is masked and there is no name or address. It cannot be used to place a named company.
What "active" means in Argentina
The register has no single company status. Each activity has a state: AC for active or BD for dropped. Testigo counts a company as an active manufacturer when its first-ranked activity is a manufacturing one in state AC.
The state of the fiscal address is a second signal. In the file, 21,819 manufacturing companies have an address marked nonexistent or unknown. Those are not loaded.
The tax ID: CUIT
A CUIT has 11 digits. The first two tell you what kind of taxpayer it is. Companies start with 30, 33 or 34. Natural persons start with 20, 23, 24 or 27.
Every CUIT in the register is a company's. If a supplier gives you a CUIT that starts with 20 or 27, you are dealing with a person, not with a registered company.
The official list: APOC
ARCA, the tax office, publishes a base of taxpayers it classes as issuers of apocryphal invoices. The full list in the 2026-10-03 edition has 45,678 tax IDs. Testigo keeps the 22,564 that belong to legal entities and ties them to records by CUIT.
The downloadable list holds the CUIT and two dates: when the condition was set and when it was published. It has no name and no address.
ARCA states that this data is informative and preventive. No licence statement was found for the list. Treat an entry as a reason to ask questions, and read ARCA's own lookup for the current state.
